11/18/2023 0 Comments Mfa outlookWhen you sign in from outside the Dallas College Administrative network or Secure Wireless Network, you will be prompted for a code or an authorization from the Microsoft Authenticator App. The first step is to sign in with your password and a code is automatically sent to your phone. By setting up multi-factor authentication, you add an extra layer of security to your Office 365 account. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), also known as 2-Step Authentication, is a Microsoft delivered feature which allows an enrolled user to better protect their account by requiring additional steps when signing in. To access email from a phone or computing device outside of the Dallas College Administrative network, other than via a web browser, you will need to configure an App Password. This guide is intended to aid and serve as a “how to” for all users to configure mobile devices to read Dallas College email after they enroll in MFA. If the Authn column is bearer* you are using the Modern Auth. The Dallas College implementation of MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) is implemented for non-student accounts only. Simply hold control and right click the outlook icon and select Connection status. If you are going to to go through all that trouble, you should setup the Authenticator app.Īnother thing to check on your outlook Desktops is using the Modern Atuh, 2016/2019 default. If you lose them you won't be able to retrieve them ,only create a new one. This would be the prefered method as App Passwords are only gernerated and shown once. MS Authenticator will allow 1 click access via approval or code generated by the Auth App. These are very hard to manage and people often paste them into txt files so not all that secure either. Once Modern Authentication is enabled you won't need to create those app passwords anymore. You can then have the Users reset their MFA secruity settings to prefer the MS APP. Instead download the Microsoft Authenticator app for Android or Iphone if you can. From my expereince, once Modern Auth 2.0 is enabled in the Exchange Online Tenant you don't want to use those " App Passwords"
